This exhibition traced how postcards shaped New York's image as a modern, cosmopolitan city in the 1920s and '30s, featuring more than 250 postcards alongside fashion, architecture, and design objects.

Design and Layout. Spanning a corridor and adjacent gallery, the design created a narrative flow between spaces. Visitors entered into a corridor introducing Art Deco fashion, objects, and photography before transitioning into a dedicated postcard gallery, with unified casework, color, and graphic elements guiding movement and connecting the two areas.

At the entry, stepped chrome-framed cases inspired by the Chrysler Building framed key postcards and oriented visitors. Inside the gallery, the case designs drew from the stepped geometry of Art Deco skyscrapers, presenting the postcard collection with rhythm and variation. Large-scale image blowups complemented the postcards and highlighted details.

Text panels as cases. We designed a custom three-dimensional text panel system—clear plexiglass panels floated over postcards—to integrate interpretation and display, keeping the postcard narrative front and center throughout the exhibition.

Color and Atmosphere. Rich dark green and deep blue wall colors, Art Deco wallpapers, silver accents, and mirrored details evoked the glamour of the period. The experience opened with a "news stand" offering takeaway postcards and concluded with a custom mailbox where visitors could mail or keep their card.
